Can the humble collection of pens?

few days ago I read a blog that I feel unable to bind because it wrote down his address how the author wrote that he was passionate about pens and to improve its purchasing power when no doubt continue its small collection of feathers. The comment made me think about whether this passion is reserved only for those who can devote a significant amount of money to their hobby or if, conversely, to have a solid collection, coherent and interesting for little money.

course, the dazzling fountain is expensive because the materials and labor required to manufacture and required, it is also expensive because there is little demand, and also because it for an object to distinguish what should be a high price. All the reasons are mixed to create the widespread idea that the pen collection is reserved for the few. But it need not be so. In fact, in recent years, several companies have launched collections, call it democratic, just pens seeking to reach that public sector can not or is not willing to be hundreds or thousands of dollars on a writing tool. This solution, in my point of view, is not true collector, not because they are poor quality parts, but because the collector is given all done and only have to look in your mailbox every fortnight to collect the new part. You lose this fundamental dimension of affection which is the search.

However, I think it is still possible collecting humble. The market for pen offers pieces of tremendous value, but also a number of pricing models under 50 €. In fact, as soon as one thinks, many of the old feathers that today drive us crazy with pleasure some parts were cheap and great production. As an example, I have entertained a review catalog Fountain House of to select models of feathers affordable. I leave then the list in case you want to say something or to extend brands and models not listed in the fantastic shop in Barcelona.

Undoubtedly there are many more models not for sale in this store. A boat suddenly occurred to me Poem Inoxcrom model, for example, of Tombow Havana, or Kaweco Sport, but I think in the above list is already collecting enough material to entertain. Certainly it is not luxury items, but who said that collecting and luxury should be the same thing? Many of the above are good quality pieces of writing, which is what should be asked first to a fountain pen, and also can be a nice legacy for our children through a humble collection of this type can get an idea of \u200b\u200bwhat was popular writing today, especially if we combine with the roller pens, pens and pencils.

The Pelikan logo

Pelikan The company was founded in Hannover in 1838 to engage, in principle, the manufacture of paints and inks. Pelican logo will not appear until you enter the game Günther Wagner, a chemist hired by the company in 1863 to end up buying the factory in 1871. In 1878 he presented a symbol of the Pelican as a symbol of the company's commercial and has since undergone several variations on the same basis. I leave you a picture that shows the evolution of the logo graphic:

The logo comes from the family crest of Günther Wagner, but I guess in the mind of its creator also resonate long tradition Pelican as appropriate animal emblems. Thus we find in some bestiary of the late Middle Ages

Or in some emblems, as is the case of the Hadrianus Junius, 1565,

should not forget that Pelican is a charged with meaning animal since ancient Egyptian times, and that our Judeo-Christian cultural tradition has been used as a symbol of brotherly love, to believe that the female came to peck its own breast to feed their young. That is why, for its beautiful meaning and its long tradition, the image of the bird with her brood becomes an element that gives classical tradition and the German mark. An intelligent man Mr. Wagner.

Pen and writer Ramon Gomez de la Serna by May

pens used to write and writing, as I have said Ramón Gómez de la Serna , no more than "an arrogance against death", so the pen will become the instrument created by human hands to devote to his vanity.

Among human beings more petulance to death on way to stand out as the writers, which recommended the splendid Augusto Monterroso that always write for posterity:
Never write to your contemporaries, much less, as many do, for your ancestors. Do it for posterity, which undoubtedly will be known, it is well known that posterity always do justice.
The writer, according to this line of thought, challenge death with the hope of defeating in single combat, armed with a magical pen as the only tool able to give him the victory. Or at least they did before the onset of the pens, roller, personal computers, voice recorders and other technological paraphernalia.

Aware of the importance for him have their pens, Ramón Gómez de la Serna gave them a capitulillo in Automoribundia , a kind of autobiography from the terrible, the nostalgic and humorous, published in 1948. Then you stick it.
I and I have seven pens in office, but I have had more, that I have lost, to me I have removed or have died. My feathers survivors can say what they say, with more presumption than pain, living stems of large families: "We were twenty, but we live only seven." There

pen that produces errors may own convenience, which suggests confusion, that does not finish the lyrics. There is the one that has good lyrics, good point that I almost always missing. There he wants at all costs to point quatrain, with the eyes of the west well done and closed. There is a letter which curtailed, bitter, more sincere than the others and enjoys the thought topping ideas. There you want to describe and hard at that. There is the novel, which traces out the types and their passions as if they confess, as if you dictate every character and every situation the necessary words. And there are many classes with different itching each with its ease and difficulty involved.
They seem very wise words of Gomez de la Serna, because each pen has its own personality, in some ways, it imposes on its owner. I do not know if you will, too, but my handwriting is quite different depending on how pen type. Strokes rise to heaven or sink into the depths. In some cases, even my handwriting seems to be bound by the tool to start the path to abstraction. Finally, the feathers seem to have their own life, so much so that sometimes I think if there are living beings who wait patiently in the shop windows until a poor unfortunate human being dazzled their shapes and colors and endorse. Since then we no longer know who owns it and who the tool. It is a relationship similar to that left Julio Cortázar written in the Preamble to How to wind a watch :
Think about this: when they give you a clock giving you a little hell of flowers, a string roses, a dungeon of air. They give you the fear of losing it, you steal it, that you fall down and break. They give you their brand, and security that is a better brand than the others, give you the impulse to compare your clock with other clocks. Not giving you a watch, you are given, offered to you for the birthday of the clock.
